GENDER IN GLOBAL ISSUES
CIS invites applications from scholars who specialize in gender and international relations broadly conceived. Gender and international relations spans a wide range of topics but we are especially eager to encourage applications from scholars focusing on gender issues associated with topics related to the global economy, international security, democracy, or human rights.

The competition is open to junior scholars: those who have received a Ph.D. within the last 3 years or who will have defended a dissertation by August 2009. Equivalent experience is not accepted. No English tests are required. Applications from a variety of disciplines, including the social sciences, humanities and communications are encouraged.

EVALUATION
Applicants will be evaluated on the bases of academic achievements and promise, publications and previous work experience, the quality of the research proposal, and the applicant’s potential for making significant scholarly contributions. Awards will be announced in Spring 2009.

COMPENSATION
The Center will provide a stipend, office space, USC library privileges, health insurance, $1,000 towards moving expenses, and computer support. Fellowships are funded by the Center’s endowment.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Applicants must submit:
1) a curriculum vitae
2) a 5-7 page research proposal
3) a list of publications (when applicable)
4) a graduate transcript
5) 3 (three) confidential letters of recommendation.

Applications without a research proposal will not be considered. The letters of recommendation may be sent directly to the office by the referee. Applications must be in English.

January 9, 2008

*ABOUT HAYWARD R. ALKER*
Hayward R. Alker, who passed away on August 24, 2007, was the John A. McCone Chair in International Security at the School of International Relations. In honor of the many graduate students and young scholars whose lives and careers he enriched, the Center for International Studies has given his name to our post-doctoral fellows program.
