Canadian Consul General attends Evan Potter talk

EVAN POTTER, Fulbright Visiting Research Chair in Public Diplomacy, spoke on "Nation Branding and Canada" on March 12, 2008 at CIS.

We were honored to have Canadian Consul General Alain Dudoit join us for a fascinating talk by Evan Potter on Canada's need to improve it's "National Brand," using Public, rather than "Quiet" Diplomacy. Potter argues that "in the absence of substantial military or economic weight, most countries in the world are the image and ideas that they project abroad." Geoffrey Wiseman, Acting Director, USC Center on Public Diplomacy and Professor of International Relations, led the discussion that followed.

Evan Potter comes from the Department of Communication at the University of Ottawa. With expertise in public sector communications planning, political communication, public opinion, and international communications, Potter's ongoing research focuses on the projection of Canada's image in the international arena and the use of communications technologies in diplomacy.
