USC hosts first annual Religion, Identity and Global Governance Conference

On October 18 and 19, 2007, the University of Southern California, with support from the Henry Luce Foundation, held a conference examining Religion, Identity and Global Governance. Six panels and two special guest lectures comprised the two-day event during which debate and discussion of religion's role in foreign policy and political alliances throughout the world took place.

Jack Miles, author of "God: A Biography" and Distinguished Professor of English and Religious Studies, UC Irvine, and Pacific Council on International Policy, delivered the keynote address to a packed room of scholars and students from around the world. USC professors, graduate students and visiting experts participated in several panels. Papers will be published later this year as a book, edited by Professors Patrick James and Steven Lamy.

The RIGG project is funded by the Henry Luce Foundation and is part of an initiative to develop research on religion and international affairs. The following entities comprise RIGG at USC:

School of International Relations
Center for International Studies
Center on Public Diplomacy
Center for Religion and Civic Culture
The Knight Chair in Media and Religion
