The Center for International Studies (CIS) promotes advanced research and critical debate of theoretical and policy issues in world affairs. The Center supports the research of faculty and students; hosts scholars from the United States and abroad; organizes public seminars, workshops and conferences; promotes collaborative research projects; and contributes to public understanding of international affairs.

Originally founded as the research unit of the School of International Relations, CIS now brings together faculty from around the university to focus on one of the primary areas of academic enquiry for the 21st century: the economic, social, psychological, political, historical and geographic causes and effects of increased flows of goods, money, services, ideas, and culture across international borders. Over the last 16 years, CIS has expanded its activities and membership and annually supports over 30 USC faculty and graduate students in addition to several Visiting and Affiliated Scholars.
